Description
Two flaws first, because you should decide with them in front of you: one of the two stage clips is missing, and the brass collar ring at the base of the eyepiece tube is split. Both are photographed close-up below. Everything else about this scope. Including the optics and the mirror illumination. Was checked at the bench and is described exactly as found.
Bench report
- Functional
- Optics are clear. No haze, no fungus, no separation. See the two through-the-eyepiece photos; that is this scope's actual image. Illumination is the feature worth understanding here: this is a mirror-illuminated stand, not a lamp stand. A tilting front-surface mirror rides on trunnions under the stage and bounces ambient light up through the glass insert. It was verified at the bench. It pivots on both trunnions and holds any angle you set with no slack and no droop. Because there is no bulb, no transformer and no cord anywhere on this unit, there is nothing electrical to burn out, nothing to re-wire, and no obsolete lamp to hunt down. It is also why nothing here is sold "untested for power". There is no power to test.
- Cosmetic
- Light scratches on the glass stage insert. Scattered spotting and blemishes across the mirror surface (shown close-up. It still throws a usable, even field). The protector foam inside the case has dried out and is crumbling. The case covering is frayed through at one bottom edge. Body castings show normal bench wear for their age; the BAUSCH & LOMB diamond logo and the 0.7X–3X marking are both crisp.
- Tested
- Optics inspected under light. Clear, no haze, no fungus, no separation · Both eyepieces present, seated and fitted on the binocular head · Mirror tilts freely on both trunnions and holds position. No slack, no droop · Binocular head, interpupillary adjustment and post-stand assembly all intact and complete
- Not tested
- Zoom smoothness across the full 0.7X–3X range · Focus travel under load · Collimation (left/right eyepiece image alignment)
